Cosmetic injectables can be a powerful tool in helping you look refreshed, balanced, and confident—but they’re just one part of the picture. To maintain your results and support overall skin health, it’s essential to build habits that work with your treatment plan, not against it.
At Esse Aesthetics, we believe in a holistic approach to aesthetic care. Here are some of the top lifestyle factors that can help enhance and prolong your injectable results, while also promoting healthy, radiant skin.
1. Stay Consistently Hydrated
Hydration is key—not only for your skin but also for your body's natural healing and collagen production processes.Aim to drink at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day, especially in the days following dermal filler treatments, which work best in well-hydrated skin.
💧 Tip: Add a slice of lemon or cucumber to make hydration feel more like self-care than a chore.
2. Protect Your Skin from the Sun
UV damage is one of the leading causes of premature ageing. Even the best injectable treatments can’t fully undo the effects of chronic sun exposure.
To protect your skin and extend the life of your results:
Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ or higher every day—even in winter
Reapply every 2–3 hours if outdoors
Wear a hat and sunglasses when possible
Sun exposure can also worsen pigmentation and break down collagen, which may reduce the longevity of your treatment.
3. Avoid Smoking and Limit Alcohol
Smoking significantly accelerates skin ageing by reducing blood flow, depleting collagen, and damaging skin elasticity. It can also interfere with how the skin responds to certain injectable treatments.
Excessive alcohol can dehydrate the skin, increase inflammation, and contribute to puffiness—all of which can undermine your treatment results.
If you're looking for long-term improvements in skin health and longevity of results, reducing or avoiding these substances is a great step.
4. Support Your Skin with Good Nutrition
Your skin is a reflection of what’s happening inside your body. Nutrients like vitamins A, C, E, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids help maintain skin health, support healing, and encourage collagen production.
Try to include:
Colourful fruits and vegetables (rich in antioxidants)
Lean protein (to support tissue repair)
Healthy fats (from nuts, seeds, avocado, or oily fish)
Plenty of fibre and water
5. Build a Consistent Skincare Routine
A tailored skincare routine helps protect your skin barrier, maintain hydration, and maximise the benefits of your treatments. We recommend using:
A gentle cleanser
Antioxidants (like Vitamin C) in the morning
Moisturiser suited to your skin type
SPF during the day
A retinol or peptide-based product at night (if suitable for your skin)
Need guidance? Our team is happy to recommend a routine based on your skin type during your consultation.
6. Get Enough Sleep
While you sleep, your skin goes into repair mode. Poor sleep can contribute to dullness, fine lines, and increased inflammation—all things that can affect how your skin responds to treatment.
Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep each night.Bonus tip: Try sleeping on your back to avoid putting pressure on the treated areas—especially after dermal filler treatments.
7. Avoid Excessive Facial Pressure or Treatments Too Soon
After injectables, it’s best to:
Avoid massages, facials, or dermaplaning for 1–2 weeks
Sleep on your back where possible
Avoid heavy physical pressure (e.g. pressing your face into a pillow or wearing tight goggles)
This helps the product settle correctly and gives your skin time to heal.
Cosmetic injectables can enhance your appearance, but your daily habits are what help you maintain it. Supporting your skin from the inside out will not only help prolong your results, but also leave you feeling your healthiest and most confident.
At Esse Aesthetics, we’re here to support your entire journey—not just your treatment day.
