Whether you're new to anti-aging treatments or a regular client, preparation is key to ensuring a smooth treatment and the best possible results. At Esse Aesthetics, we want you to feel confident and informed at every step of your aesthetic journey. Here’s what you need to know before your appointment.
1. Book Your Consultation First
Before any treatment, it’s essential to have a personalised consultation with our Registered Nurse. This allows us to:
Understand your goals
Assess your medical history
Determine whether treatment is appropriate for you
Create a tailored plan that enhances your natural features
This step is also a requirement under Australian medical and regulatory guidelines, as some injectable treatments involve prescription-only medications.
2. Avoid Blood Thinners and Alcohol
To help reduce the risk of bruising, we recommend avoiding the following for at least 24–48 hours before treatment (unless advised otherwise by your healthcare provider):
Alcohol
Aspirin
Ibuprofen
Fish oil supplements
Vitamin E
Certain herbal supplements (e.g. garlic, ginseng, ginkgo)
These can thin your blood and increase your likelihood of bruising at the injection sites.
Important: If you are taking prescribed medications, do not stop them without first speaking to your doctor.
3. Plan Around Events
Some swelling, redness, or bruising is normal after injectables. These effects are typically mild and temporary, but it's wise to avoid scheduling treatments right before major events like weddings, photoshoots, or holidays.
Allow at least:
2 weeks before important social events (especially for volumising treatments)
3–5 days for anti-wrinkle treatments to take full effect
4. Stay Well and Hydrated
If you’re feeling unwell—even with mild cold or allergy symptoms—please contact us to reschedule. Your body’s immune response can affect healing, and we want to ensure you’re in the best condition for treatment.
Also, drink plenty of water and arrive with clean, makeup-free skin if possible.
5. Let Us Know About:
Any recent or upcoming dental work (including cleanings or procedures)
Any vaccinations received in the past 2 weeks or planned in the next 2 weeks
Any history of cold sores or current outbreaks
Any active acne or skin irritation in the treatment area
These can all impact your suitability for treatment on the day, and may require us to reschedule to ensure your safety and best results.
6. Aftercare Starts Before Treatment
Your nurse will provide detailed aftercare instructions, but being prepared ahead of time can help you plan. For example:
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours post-treatment
No facial treatments or massages for 1–2 weeks
Follow-up appointments are often needed 2 weeks after initial treatment
